If your business has a physical location that your clients or customers can visit, it’s incredibly important to ensure your opening hours are displayed accurately on Google. This means updating your trading hours on your listing on your Google Business Profile (formerly known as Google My Business) for Google Maps, your website, your business’s social channels, and your industry-specific directories. We’ll show you how to update your business hours on Google, and this is why it is so important to do so.
Have you ever arrived at a business you intended to purchase from, only to find them closed? This happened to me yesterday. I researched some gifts I wanted to purchase online and drove to the store, only to find it was closed and their Google Business Profile’s operating hours were incorrect. Not a great customer experience!
So, take a few minutes out of your day to check and update your business’s trading hours on Google including the ‘holiday hours’, as well as any important directories and maps for your industry. It literally only takes a few minutes!
Unfortunately, Bing Places and Apple Maps do not have the capability to update your business hours for special holiday times, but we’ll show you other methods for communicating your business hours.
Why You Should Update Your Business Hours
As I mentioned previously, inaccurate business hours can result in very poor experiences for your customers. It’s especially important to update your business hours during the holiday season, as many businesses may stay open later, or close on public holidays. Failing to update your business hours on Google and other platforms could be costing you valuable business!
It’s also a helpful tool to communicate with employees and stakeholders:
- What is happening during the holiday season
- What your working days in a year are
- What special hours you will be operating on
How to Update Your Business Hours on Google:
- Sign in to your Google Business Profile
- Search your exact business name, or “my business” in Google’s search bar
- Click “View Profile” of the location you wish to update, then click “Edit Profile”
- Click “Hours” and update your regular business hours, as well as special holiday hours
- Click “Save”
Please note: Edits may be reviewed for quality and can take up to 3 days to be published.
This will change your Google Business Profile listing, as well as your Google Maps opening hours.

Depending on your business, you may have certain directories that have your operating days and hours. You may want to consider editing your business’s operating hours if you have created a listing in a directory. Some examples of directories are:
