Case Study Mainbreak Water Sports

Website Design, SEO, Paid Ads, Marketing

Mainbreak Water Sports is a sporting equipment store run by Simon Peters in Margaret River. Simon has been a water sports enthusiast since the 1980s and an International Kiteboarding Organisation (IKO) instructor since 2002.

Simon opened Mainbreak in 2002. After over 23 years of business, he decided it was time to upgrade his online presence. He partnered with Bloom Digital in November 2024 to recreate his ecommerce website in a more modern, sleek, and responsive design to reflect his brand. Simon also opted for our marketing services, starting in August 2025, to increase brand awareness and sales during peak periods.

In the first month alone of his marketing retainer launch, Simon achieved over $6,000 in revenue.

Brand Application

Using Mainbreak’s original colour palette of white, cyan, and black, and the original logo, we refined the visual branding to achieve a cohesive, fluid and approachable website experience.

The original rounded black typography used in the site’s headings communicates strength and reliability in a modern style. We applied this same rounded typographical style to buttons, images, and form fields for a cohesive experience.

To enhance the use of the colour palette, we prioritised blue-toned imagery (many of the photos taken by Simon himself) on white backgrounds. Paired with black accents and blue buttons, the result is fresh and harmonious.

We also applied the colours across the new site in the interactive mega menu, rollover buttons, and to highlight key information like product prices. This combination effectively provides this small, locally-owned business with the ability to rival bigger sports ecommerce sites without losing the approachability of the brand.

Website

Using Simon’s previous website as a starting point and completing thorough competitor research, we set to work on recreating a new site that matched Mainbreak’s refreshed branding.

We achieved this through:

  • A sleek, immersive, mobile-first design to capture the energy and action of water sports, and appeal to seasoned and new riders.
  • Easy-to-find products with filtering options and a detailed mega-menu.
  • Clear navigation and CTAs that guide users intuitively through the site.
  • Action shots of products stocked by Mainbreak so web visitors can visualise themselves riding the waves.

Mainbreak’s final ecommerce website build provided the perfect place for customers to make a splash.

Marketing

A few months after the website launch, Simon began his marketing retainer with us. In month one, we focused solely on SEO, optimising page titles, meta descriptions, and internal linking for maximum ranking.

As part of Bloom’s signature empowering and flexible approach, we provided Simon with SEO products training so he could take over uploading new products himself.

The (ongoing) result is a bright, user-friendly website that highlights Simon’s expertise and breadth of products. With an 855.2% increase in revenue so far through marketing, Mainbreak Water Sports is quickly becoming an ecommerce success.
